Recognizing that faculty and staff are productive artists in their own right, the show intends to celebrate the academic tradition in which established artists lead new generations of artists, while the students inspire them in return. Frida Cano – Fundacion/Coleccion Jumex scholar and Claudia Schidlow, EMS students at SFAI, developed a project in which collaboration between students and faculty occured. Both the Diego Rivera Gallery – at the 800 Chestnut Street campus – and Swell Gallery – at SFAI’s Graduate campus – functioned as the laboratory in which this adventure took place. The space and light conditions of the Diego Rivera Gallery encouraged more traditional work to be displayed, in comparison with the Swell Gallery where media based works were shown.
